Genomic Data Interoperability

PGXCare Interoperability

Project Overview

PGXCare is a startup in the rapidly evolving field of pharmacogenetics that aims to revolutionize healthcare by personalizing medical solutions through genetic data. Banksia Global partnered with PGXCare to develop an interoperability solution that would support their growth and streamline their client onboarding processes.

The Challenge

As PGXCare experienced rapid growth, the complexity of onboarding new clients became a significant hurdle. Particularly challenging was integrating with midsize and large genetic laboratories that used diverse systems and had varied data interchange preferences. Each new client integration required significant custom development, creating bottlenecks in the company's expansion and diverting resources from core business functions.

Our Solution

To streamline this process, PGXCare turned to InterSystems IRIS for Health, a robust data management platform renowned for its interoperability capabilities. Banksia Global helped PGXCare to build a proof of concept interoperability production that involved:

  • Developing a suite of REST APIs that allowed PGXCare's own codebase to interact seamlessly with IRIS
  • Offloading the complexities of data conversion and integration to the IRIS platform
  • Detailed mapping of existing client data formats to standardized structures
  • Configuring IRIS to handle data interoperability functions efficiently
  • Supporting PGXCare's IT staff on implementing and managing the new system

Results and Benefits

The implementation delivered significant benefits to PGXCare's operations:

  • PGXCare's systems remained streamlined and focused on core functionalities
  • Client onboarding process was significantly simplified and accelerated
  • Enhanced operational efficiency by reducing the complexity of data interchange
  • Decreased time required to onboard new clients
  • Provided a scalable solution that could accommodate growth without additional complexity
  • Improved data quality through standardized transformations and validations
